How to configure AOL to work with your Local Internet Service Provider:

Because AOL is a long distance call to most of our area, AOL offers a program called "Bring your own provider", which allows you to use a local Internet provider to connect to the Internet and then access AOL without the long distance phone charges. Follow these steps below to configure AOL:

  1. Double click on the American Online icon.
  2. Click the Setup button.
  3. From the Network & Modem Setup screen click the Edit Location button.
  4. The Location field should say Home.
  5. Make sure the Phone Number field is blank.
  6. The Network Setup Screen will open and in the Network Field choose TCP/IP from the pull-down menu.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Then click OK.
  9. You can now close the AOL screen.

Once you have configured AOL, follow these steps to connect:

  1. Connect to your local provider.
  2. Double click your AOL icon.
  3. Now sign on to AOL.
  4. Go to Keyword "billing" and to make certain the bring your own provider is selected, billing should be about $9.95/month.
