CIC—1/18/05

Twelve members and guests attended the January 18 meeting of the New London Community Improvement Corporation at J. Patrick’s Main St. Grill.

President Dar Anderson opened the meeting, and the secretary’s report was approved.  Cathy Carpenter, filling in for Treasurer Theresa Smith, said there is $1,163.70 in checking, $2,786.76 in savings, $6,000 in CDs and $375,222.56 in the Revolving Loan Fund.

Officers for 2005 are Dar, president; Steve Von Behren, vice president; Theresa, treasurer; and Ellen Simmons, secretary.

Steve handed around a plaque he proposed could go to all members and would be updated each year with a sticker.  Cathy Carpenter moved and Susanne Rusnak seconded the motion for the club to pay $5 for each plaque.  The motion passed.

Deb Gerard from Hospice of North Central Ohio handed around information about a seminar for women called “Heart and Soul:  Life Lessons for Women” Mar. 4 and 5 featuring Karen Taylor-Good.

Kelly Gearhart announced she has been promoted to general manager of the NL Record and Firelands Farmer.

Jim Wiedenheft, executive director of the Huron County Development Council, suggested we use the Revolving Loan Fund to attract business to the village.  He said the business must bring new jobs, and the guideline is a maximum of $25,000 can be loaned for each new job created.  He added that 10 percent of loan repayments can go to marketing.

A discussion followed and a committee made up of Kelly, Steve and Deb will work on marketing ideas, including using the internet.

Jim said Erie Soil & Water (Erie Basin) might be able to help with the revitalization funding.

Ellen will get copies of the village brochure to Jim.  He also suggested it be put on the web. His web site is HCDC.net, and businesses looking for land or buildings in the county can check that site.  New London’s web site is newlondonohio.com.

Dues are $30 for a business and $20 for an individual and should be given to Theresa at National City Bank in New London.

The next meeting is Feb. 15 at the New London Child Care Center in the basement of the United Methodist Church.  Lunch will cost $5.
