CIC—3/15/05

Twenty-five members and guests attended the March 15 meeting of the New London Community Improvement Corporation at the American Legion, with the Legion Auxiliary catering lunch.

President Dar Anderson opened the meeting, and the secretary’s report was approved.  Treasurer Theresa Smith reported $1,614.70 in checking, $2,788.30 in savings, $6,075 in CDs and $382,221.79 in the Revolving Loan Fund.

Marketing Committee members Kelly Gearhart, Deb Gerard and Steve Von Behren reported they are working on updating the web site information about businesses and the Revolving Loan Fund.

A Strategic Planning Committee will be formed and anyone interested in serving is welcome.  Ben Kenny and Jim Wiedenheft will be asked to participate in some of the planning.

The Board of Trustees has been discussing ways to contribute in some way to the community and get the CIC name out.  One suggestion was sponsoring a Little League team and another was participating in the upcoming Firemen’s convention in some way.  Other suggestions are welcome.

Steve said all members are asked to submit information for a directory, with a deadline of May 1.

Ellen Simmons said the Rotarians are selling roses, and Gary Graham said April 19 will be the Community Health Fair at the school and it is hoped this will be an annual event.

Mayor Dar Anderson gave the State of the Village address.  He handed out a booklet outlining 2004 statistics and information and said the village is still in a budget crisis and village employee pay was frozen for the second year in a row.

He said Kent Sporting Goods is leaving the village, except for a warehouse and the corporate headquarters and the overpass is temporarily on hold because of the Indiana bat, an endangered species.  Pat Cassidy said the project should resume after April 15.

The April 19 CIC meeting will be held at Firelands Electric and the cooperative will provide the speaker.
